MSB’s Commitment to Social Value

The team at MSB take great pride in not only the legal services we provide to our clients, but also supporting the communities we serve.

The MSB Social Housing Team understand that a large part of social value for registered providers of social housing is about creating communities in which people want to live and spend their time. Social value is broader than simply giving money and includes people giving their time to promote greater wellbeing and community benefits.

Tom Stockton is a Senior Associate Solicitor and our Social Value Lead for landlords. Tom is passionate about giving back and helping communities thrive, understanding the importance of wellbeing, good health, and a feeling of safety within neighbourhoods. We understand that registered providers are required by the regulator of social housing to demonstrate good value for money and social value plays a part in that.

Tom is leading the way in ensuring that MSB provide social value to all our clients. He regularly speaks to customers and clients and has offered to support social housing providers in their strategic and operational social value aims.

Tom’s efforts have been successful and have resulted in our team being involved in some brilliant initiatives. For example, members of the Social Housing & Regeneration Team volunteered to carry out a garden clear out at an assisted living scheme. Our team spent an afternoon using their green fingers to help tidy the garden and make it somewhere the residents would enjoy relaxing. Flower beds were weeded, and benches painted! It was a brilliant day, and the residents even offered the team birthday cake as a thank you for their efforts.

Other activities organised by Tom have involved school uniform collections for children who reside in some of our client’s communities as well as Easter egg and Advent calendar collections which have been greatly received.

As well as volunteering his time, Tom has also involved other departments within MSB who have volunteered their legal services. For example, our Wills and Probate Team very kindly donated 10 free wills to tenants of our social housing provider clients. Both our clients and the tenants who benefited from this were delighted.
