Susan Alexander

Mediator, Collaborative lawyer and Solicitor

With over four decades of legal expertise, Susan Alexander is a distinguished solicitor specialising in family law, collaborative law, and mediation. Susan joined MSB in 2024 from another Chester based family team, but her career in law actually started further afield in Scotland.

Admitted as a solicitor in Scotland in 1981, Susan quickly established herself as a formidable advocate, gaining the nickname “Queen of the Ordinary Court”. Susan rapidly advanced and swiftly became a full equity partner at Russells, where she led the firm’s family law practice, representing high-profile clients and earning a stellar reputation in the field.

A founding member of the Family Law Association in Scotland, Susan’s influence extends beyond her practice. She was appointed by the Sheriff Principal in several critical roles, including ‘curator ad litem’ and ‘safeguarder,’ advocating for children and those lacking capacity in court proceedings. Her work in family law is both comprehensive and compassionate, encompassing everything from complex divorce and financial remedy cases to child abduction, surrogacy, and human rights issues.

In 1994, Susan transitioned her practice to England and Wales, where she continued to build on her extensive experience and now practices exclusively. She has led and grown family law departments, gaining Resolution accreditation in domestic abuse and separation along the way. Her work has continued to grow along with her stellar reputation. Respected by solicitors, experts and judges alike, Susan has continued to grow her client base across the North West of England and North Wales.

As a collaborative practitioner and accredited mediator, Susan plays a pivotal role in resolving disputes amicably, currently serving as the Secretary of the Cheshire Collaborative Family Lawyers pod.

Susan’s expertise in high-net-worth cases, business and farming assets, trust disputes, and complex cases involving domestic abuse and surrogacy makes her a sought-after advisor. Her career reflects a deep commitment to family law, offering clients unparalleled knowledge, empathy, and a collaborative approach to resolving even the most challenging cases.

Whilst Susan no longer practices in Scotland, she retains a strong understanding of the operation of Scottish law which equips her well to conduct cross border cases and liaise with Scottish lawyers with ease and understanding.
